Can I buy the bare hull?

Yes! We offer a bare hull that you can fit-out yourself.

What can be customised on the Mackay built Starling?

Deck colour – discuss your preference with us.

Non skid on the floor – choose from EVA or deck tread.

Is the Starling suitable for adults as well as youth?

Absolutely! While the majority of sailors are youth, the boat is ideal for anyone weighing between 48–70kg looking for fun, skill-building, and a beautifully balanced boat that “fires up,” planning through the water.

What technical skills can I learn on a Starling?

Sailors learn rig setup, sail controls and trim and kinetics — essential skills for progressing to higher sailing classes.

Can I join a youth sailing fleet with a Starling?

Yes! The Starling is raced in large, active fleets, offering plenty of opportunities to compete and make new friends around New Zealand. It’s calendar includes an annual traveller series, match racing events, as well as a National Championship.

 

Where can I buy the Starling mast / boom from?

Mackay Boats supplies the Starling aluminum mast and boom. You can choose to have either a completely fitted out mast / boom or a bare tube.
