Boat Maintenance & Care

Proper maintenance keeps your VX One fast, reliable, and ready to race. Here’s a guide on what to check before racing and how to care for your boat and sails over the long term.

Pre-Race Checklist
  • Rigging – Inspect shrouds, forestay, pins, rings, and tape for wear or damage
  • Mast & Boom – Look for cracks, dents, or loose fittings
  • Running Rigging – Check halyards, control lines, and splices for chafe
  • Foils – Ensure daggerboard, rudder, and tiller fittings are secure and smooth
  • Sails – Confirm battens are secure and sail ties are clear
  • Safety Gear – PFDs, tow line, paddle, and bailer onboard
A quick inspection can prevent breakdowns and lost races.

Caring for Your VX One Boat
  • Rinse hull, foils, and fittings with fresh water after sailing
  • Dry the cockpit and storage areas to avoid moisture buildup
  • Periodically remove and re-grease stainless fittings and pins
  • Store the boat level and supported evenly on the trailer
Regular cleaning not only protects the boat but makes problems easier to spot.

Caring for Your Sails
  • Flake or roll sails loosely after sailing—avoid hard creases
  • Dry sails completely before long-term storage
  • Keep sails out of direct sunlight when not in use
  • Inspect stitching, batten pockets, and telltales regularly
Well-maintained sails hold their shape longer and retain top-end performance.
